The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia from March 18, 2023 through September 17, 2024. In addition to extending TPS for Somalian nationals who already have TPS, DHS also announced the “redesignation” of TPS for Somalia. This redesignation will allow Somalians who have been continuously residing in the United States as of January 11, 2023 to apply for TPS (as long as they meet all other eligibility requirements). Somalian nationals who entered the United States after January 11, 2023 will not be eligible to apply.
Current TPS beneficiaries must re-register before May 12, 2023 to avoid gaps in their work authorization.
